Angad Vir Singh Bajwa's Nationality Switch

Renowned Indian skeet shooter Angad Vir Singh Bajwa has made the significant decision to represent Canada moving forward. He shared this news on social media, proudly displaying his new red shooting vest adorned with the Canadian flag.

Although he had attempted to make this switch back in 2021, many in the shooting community were taken aback by this recent announcement. His last competition saw him finishing fourth in the skeet final at the National Shooting Championships, where he successfully hit 35 targets.

His Indian teammates, Gurjoat Singh Khangura, Mairaj Ahmad Khan, and Harmehar Singh Lally, secured the top three spots in the individual rankings. A major factor influencing Bajwa's decision is his family's established life in Canada, where his father, Gurpal Singh Bajwa, runs a successful business.

Bajwa holds the unique honor of being the only Indian shooter to clinch back-to-back titles at the Asian Shooting Championships in 2018 and 2019. Notably, he achieved a historic perfect score of 60/60 in the finals during the 2018 championships. In addition, he earned a mixed team gold medal with Ganemat Sekhon at the 2021 New Delhi World Cup, contributing to a team gold alongside Mairaj and Gurjoat.

Pawan Singh, the secretary general of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), confirmed that the no objection certificate (NOC) has been granted to Bajwa following the nationals. He stated, "We received his application for an NOC, and since there is freedom of choice in our country, we have issued it to him."

Singh acknowledged that Bajwa's departure is a significant loss for both the NRAI and India, but emphasized that the country has the talent to manage this setback.
