This week marks a crucial chapter in the history of Indian surfing as the seventh edition of the NMPA Indian Open of Surfing 2026 is set to take place at the Blue Bay Tannirbhavi Eco Beach in Mangalore from May 29 to 31. This event is a vital stop on the national surfing circuit and is particularly significant as it precedes surfing's debut at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games later this year. The championship is expected to draw over 80 athletes from various states, including Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Goa, competing in categories such as Men's Open, Women's Open, Under-18 Boys, Under-18 Girls, Under-14 Boys, and Under-14 Girls.

The event is organized by the Mantra Surf Club and Surfing Swami Foundation, under the auspices of the Surfing Federation of India (SFI). For the seventh consecutive year, the Karnataka Government has shown its support, while the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) continues as the title sponsor for the third time.
