Indian Open 2026 Gains PWR 1000 Status

The Indian Open 2026, organized by Global Sports, is set to become a PWR 1000 event sanctioned by the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), marking a significant partnership between the two organizations.

Scheduled from April 1 to 5 at Crosscourts in Hyderabad, this event will attract over 1,500 participants competing for a prize pool of USD 50,000 across 56 categories.

This marks the fourth edition of the Indian Open, which has previously seen participation from around 4,000 pickleball players hailing from 19 different countries. The IPA's sanctioning is a crucial step in establishing a structured framework for pickleball in India.

The collaboration between Global Sports and the IPA integrates the largest private tournament series in the country into the official governance of pickleball, paving the way for future events to be conducted under the IPA's oversight.

As the sole governing body for pickleball in India, the Indian Pickleball Association received its National Sports Federation status from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

“This partnership represents a significant milestone for Indian sports. By incorporating Global Sports into the IPA framework, we are ensuring that every match played at the Indian Open aligns with a unified vision for the sport in our country. We are dedicated to providing our athletes with a premier platform governed by the highest standards of integrity and excellence,” stated Suryaveersingh Bhullar, President of the IPA.

Shashank Khaitan, Co-Founder and Partner at Global Sports, emphasized, “Our goal has always been to establish a strong infrastructure for pickleball. Partnering with the IPA allows us to formalize our initiatives and ensure that our players gain the national recognition they deserve. The Indian Open's elevation to a PWR 1000 event is just the start of our journey to position India as a global hub for this sport.”

Global Sports has played a pivotal role in organizing major events in India, boasting the largest prize pools and participant numbers. Events like the Monsoon Pickleball Championship and the recent Grand Slam highlight their commitment to advancing pickleball in the country.

The transition of the Indian Open to a PWR 1000 event is transformative for athletes, introducing a standardized ranking system and centralized governance that provides numerous advantages, including official player pathways, consistent governance, elite competition standards, and data integrity.
