Upcoming Challenge for Indian Men's Hockey Team

Amstelveen [Netherlands], June 8: Following a narrow defeat of 1-2 to the Netherlands in their FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25 (Men), the Indian Men's Hockey Team is determined to recover in their next match against the top-ranked team on June 9, 2025, at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen.

In the initial stages of the first half, the Indian team displayed strong potential, with Captain Harmanpreet Singh successfully converting a penalty corner to take the lead. However, the Dutch team made a remarkable comeback, ultimately securing victory with two goals from Thijs van Dam, including the decisive goal in the 58th minute, as reported by Hockey India.

Currently, India holds the fourth position in the points table with 15 points, with seven matches remaining in the competition. As they aim for a spot in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026, the team is focused on maximizing their points against formidable opponents.

Reflecting on the previous match, head coach Craig Fulton noted, "We performed well in the first half, but the third quarter was not as effective. In the fourth quarter, we regained our momentum and were winning the ball, yet we failed to convert our chances into shots on goal. Losing in that manner was unfortunate, as I believed we could have pushed for a draw."

As the team prepares for their next encounter, Fulton emphasized their determination, stating, "We want to challenge ourselves against a team like the Netherlands. It was a close match, and we had opportunities, so we need to keep pushing forward. With seven games left, there is still much to play for."

Captain Harmanpreet Singh echoed these sentiments, saying, "The last match highlighted specific areas for improvement, and as a team, we are ready to respond. Everyone is eager to bounce back and face a tough opponent like the Netherlands. This squad has the capability to overcome any challenge, and we will give our utmost in the crucial matches ahead."
