Indian Golfers Shine at Australian WPGA Championships
Strong Performances by Indian Golfers
Diksha Dagar emerged as the standout Indian player after the initial round of the Australian WPGA Championships at the Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club. She delivered an impressive score of 4-under 67, placing her tied for 8th on the leaderboard. Dagar trails the leader, Kelsey Macdonald, by four strokes, who set a new course record with her score of 64.
Promising Start for Hitaashee Bakshi
Hitaashee Bakshi also had a commendable start, finishing her round at 2-under 69. Other Indian participants included Pranavi Urs and Vani Kapoor, who faced challenges with scores of 1-over 72 and 2-over 73, respectively, landing them at T-68 and T-81.
Diksha Dagar's Impressive Round
Diksha enjoyed a flawless round, beginning her play on the ninth hole. She secured a birdie on the tenth and added three more birdies on the front nine, concluding her day at 4-under par, which places her at T-8.
Hitaashee Bakshi's Resilient Performance
Hitaashee Bakshi, aiming to bounce back after a challenging few weeks on the LET, started on the front nine. She played even par initially, with birdies on the fourth, sixth, and ninth holes. However, a bogey on the fifth and a double bogey on the eighth cost her three shots. The 21-year-old managed to secure two additional birdies on the 12th and 18th holes, finishing at 2-under par and placing T-23. Bakshi successfully found the fairway on every hole, with her bogey and double bogey occurring on holes where she missed the Green in Regulation.
Kelsey Macdonald Sets a New Course Record
Kelsey Macdonald leads the tournament by one stroke after an extraordinary opening round, setting a new course record of 7-under 64 at the Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club. The 35-year-old Scot began her round with a bogey on the first hole but quickly turned things around with a birdie on the fourth. She added two more birdies on the front nine and three on the back nine, finishing her round with an eagle on the 18th hole. Macdonald made every Green in Regulation except for the first hole during her record-setting performance.
Local Star Hannah Green in the Mix
Hannah Green, a local favorite, is currently in second place, just one stroke behind Macdonald, alongside England's Charlotte Heath. Green appears to be in excellent form, having recently won in Adelaide and secured her seventh LPGA title just two weeks ago in Singapore.
