National Squad Camp Kicks Off in Greater Noida
Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 16: A group of the nation’s most promising amateur golfers has gathered at Jaypee Greens for a prestigious national squad camp, organized by the Indian Golf Union (IGU). This event runs from April 14 to 19 and aims to prepare these athletes for the upcoming German International Amateur, set to take place from May 1 to 4 at the Berliner Golf & Country Club Motzener in Mittenwalde, as stated in a release from IGU Media.
The ten selected amateurs include Arin Ahuja, Rakshit Dahiya, Sukhman Singh, Kanav Chauhan, Varun Muthappa, Ayan Gupta, Jaiveer, Deepak Yadav, Sandeep Yadav, and Vinamra Anand. The IGU initiated the National Squad System last year in anticipation of the Paris Olympic Games, aiming to provide exceptional training across various facets of the sport.
During the camp, IGU Director General Major Gen. Bibhuti Bhushan (Retd) remarked, “This initiative is crucial for establishing a cohesive national team. Our goal extends beyond skill enhancement; we aim to cultivate mentally resilient, physically fit, and team-oriented golfers prepared for global competition,” according to IGU Media.
The camp is structured as a comprehensive training program, emphasizing not only technical skills but also overall development. It features specialized sessions in physiotherapy, physical fitness, sports psychology, and nutrition. Additionally, there is a strong focus on fostering team spirit and camaraderie, which are vital for success on the international stage.
Reflecting on his experience, Sukhman Singh expressed gratitude to the Indian Golf Union for the opportunity to participate in the national squad camp. He noted, “With access to top-notch trainers, physiotherapists, nutritionists, and mental health experts, we have a world-class setup. This camp is instrumental in our growth as golfers, enhancing our physical and mental strength.”
He further acknowledged the council’s ongoing support, stating, “I appreciate the chance to gain international experience by competing against some of the best amateurs globally. I am excited to be part of this journey and aim to make our country proud.”
This camp is a vital stepping stone for athletes preparing for international representation, with performances here significantly influencing the final selection of players who will represent the nation in forthcoming international competitions.
Another promising amateur, Arin Ahuja, shared, “Being part of the Indian Golf Union’s national squad camp has been an extraordinary opportunity. With guidance from some of India’s finest professionals—a physiotherapist, psychologist, nutritionist, physical trainer, and swing coach—we are receiving personalized attention that enhances every aspect of our game. This holistic approach is not only refining our skills but also equipping us mentally and physically for future challenges. I believe it will greatly benefit us in upcoming tournaments.”
