The Indian Football League (IFL) is scheduled to start its 2026-27 season on October 30, featuring new locations in Nagaland, as announced on the All India Football Federation (AIFF) website.

Governing Council Meeting Highlights

On Tuesday, the IFL Governing Council convened at the Football House in New Delhi, with representatives from all 11 participating clubs present. They reviewed the previous season, noting that viewership and broadcast performance had significantly improved, with numbers four times higher than the 2024-25 season.

Decisions Made by the Governing Council

The Governing Council confirmed the start date for the 2026-27 IFL season as October 30, 2026. Additionally, they approved a regulation allowing a maximum of three foreign players on the field at any given time during matches. Nagaland and Odisha were welcomed as new venues, expanding the league's reach across India. The council also discussed the IFL Charter, budget proposals, and sponsorship opportunities.

AIFF's Anticipation for the Upcoming Season

M Satyanarayan, Deputy Secretary General of AIFF, expressed satisfaction with the meeting, stating, "We are pleased to confirm the new dates for the IFL season. Last season generated significant interest despite being shortened, and the viewership was promising. We are eager for a complete home-and-away season, with new teams and venues enhancing the excitement surrounding the IFL."

Broadcast Partnership Discussions

In preparation for the upcoming season, IFL club representatives and AIFF Deputy Secretary General M Satyanarayan met with Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi in New Delhi on Monday. They discussed the broadcast partnership for the 2026-27 season, with both parties optimistic about a successful collaboration.
