Pace Bowling Strategy for Upcoming Test Series

As the Indian cricket team gears up for the upcoming Test series against England, they are focusing on bolstering their pace bowling lineup. With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami likely to miss several matches in the five-Test series, the team is keen on having robust backup options. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna are expected to be included, and the selection of a left-arm pacer seems essential.

Arshdeep Singh emerges as a strong candidate for this role. Despite not having made his Test debut yet, he has been considered overdue for a call-up. Previously labeled a white-ball specialist, he missed out on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to limited experience in red-ball cricket. Nevertheless, he boasts an impressive record of 66 wickets in 21 first-class matches, with his best bowling figures being 6/40 in last year's Duleep Trophy. His performance in IPL 2025 has also been noteworthy, with 16 wickets so far. His height and ability to swing the ball could make him a valuable asset in English conditions.

Potential Selections for the Pace Bowling Unit

Another contender for the pace bowling unit is Khaleel Ahmed. Although he lacks extensive red-ball experience, his recent form is promising. He has claimed 52 wickets in 19 first-class matches, averaging 28.34. In IPL 2025, he has bowled the most dot balls, totaling 119, and has taken 14 wickets. His height could also serve as an advantage in the pace-friendly environment of England.

Yash Dayal is another option being considered. Although he has been on a Pace Bowling contract and participated in a few matches with the national Test squad in 2024, he is yet to make his debut. While he is shorter than both Arshdeep and Khaleel, his first-class record is commendable, with 84 wickets in 27 matches at an average of 28.78. He has also played for RCB in IPL 2025, securing 10 wickets in 11 matches.
