Archery World Cup Stage 3: A Tough Day for Indian Archers

Indian compound archers faced a challenging day at the Archery World Cup Stage 3, failing to advance to the medal rounds in the individual events on Friday.

After a strong performance in Shanghai, where they secured two golds, one silver, and four bronzes, India has yet to earn any medals in this stage.

Madhura Dhamangaonkar, the fourth seed and last World Cup champion, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by fifth-seeded Mariana Bernal from Mexico, losing 152-159 in the women's individual category. While Mariana maintained her consistency, Madhura struggled to regain her form after an initial round score of 29 out of 33.

World champion Aditi Swami also exited in the quarterfinals, falling 147-152 to Andrea Becerra, the second seed from Mexico.

In the men's category, 13th seed Rishabh Yadav was defeated by 28th seed Nicolas Girard from France with a score of 149-157 in the quarterfinals. Earlier, Yadav had narrowly defeated senior teammate Abhishek Verma 157-154 in the pre-quarterfinals.

World champion Ojas Deotale experienced an unexpected first-round exit, losing 157-161 to James Lutz from the USA.

The Indian compound archers seemed to struggle with the newly implemented scoring rules at this event.

Starting from the Antalya leg, the 'X' ring, which is the innermost circle, now awards 11 points, raising the perfect score per round (three arrows) from 30 to 33.

On Thursday, India also faced early exits in both the recurve and compound team events. They will now aim to redeem their performance in the mixed team event scheduled for later today.

Expectations will also be high for the recurve individual events.
