Impressive Performances by Young Indian Boxers

Bangkok [Thailand], March 14: The young boxing talents from India have showcased their skills at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 in Bangkok, with Chandrika, Gunjan, Joyshree Devi, and Ambekar Meetei all securing spots in the finals after strong semifinal performances on Saturday.


In the women's 51kg division, Chandrika exhibited a powerful display, defeating Morocco's Rihab Hamdoune by Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the second round, thus earning her place in the gold medal match.


Gunjan, competing in the women's 48kg category, dominated her bout against North Korea's Yu Gyong Kim, winning by a unanimous 5-0 decision to advance to the finals.


Joyshree Devi (54kg) also delivered an impressive performance, stopping Mexico's Sofia Ramirez with a Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the first round, ensuring her place in the final.


In the men's 50kg category, Ambekar Meetei secured his final spot with a convincing 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Uzbekistan's Abdugani Yorkinjonov.


On the other hand, Radhamani Longjam (57kg) faced a tough match but ultimately lost 2-3 to Ukraine's Yevanhelina Petruk in the semifinals, finishing with a bronze medal.


With four Indian boxers now heading to the finals, the team is eager to transform their strong performances into gold medals as the tournament nears its conclusion.
