Strong Performances by Indian Shuttlers

Macau [China], July 29: Indian badminton players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, alongside Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra, delivered impressive performances to advance in the Macau Open 2025, a BWF Super 300 event, held at the Macao East Asian Games Dome on Tuesday.


In the men's doubles category, the second-seeded duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty easily defeated Malaysia's Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong with scores of 21-13, 21-15, securing their spot in the Round of 16, as reported by the BWF.


Meanwhile, in women's doubles, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra faced a tough challenge against Chinese Taipei's Zih Ling Huang and Wang Szu-Min, ultimately winning 21-15, 16-21, 21-17 in a thrilling three-game match to also reach the Round of 16.


On the other hand, Apoorva Gahlawat and Sakshi Gahlawat were eliminated in the women's doubles Round of 32 by Malaysia's Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing, while Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela ended their journey with a defeat against Lin Xiao Min and Peng Yu Wei.


In men's doubles, Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi also exited in the first round.


Earlier this month, Rankireddy and Shetty faced disappointment in the semi-finals of the BWF Super 1000 China Open 2025, where they lost to the Malaysian duo of Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia, who are two-time Olympic bronze medallists.


Despite a strong effort in the second game, the Indian pair, ranked 12th in men's doubles, succumbed to a 21-13, 21-17 defeat after 42 minutes of play.


This loss marked their 11th defeat in 14 encounters against the world No. 2 pair of Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia, who had also bested them in the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
