India vs England: A Thrilling Semifinal Showdown at the T20 World Cup!

Exciting Semifinal Encounter Ahead

Mumbai: The highly anticipated semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will see India take on England at Wankhede Stadium, marking their third consecutive meeting at this stage of the tournament.

Previously, these two teams faced off in the semifinals during the 2022 and 2024 editions. In 2022, England dashed India's hopes and went on to claim victory against Pakistan in the final. However, in 2024, India, led by Rohit Sharma, reversed the outcome, defeating England in the semifinal and later triumphing over South Africa in the final held in Barbados.

Interesting Tidbit: In both previous encounters, the team that emerged victorious from the India-England semifinal went on to lift the trophy.

England has played six T20 internationals at Wankhede, achieving three wins and three losses. In contrast, India has participated in seven matches at this venue, securing five victories. India's last T20 defeat at Wankhede occurred in December 2017, with earlier losses against the West Indies in 2016 and England in 2012. The two teams have clashed twice in T20 matches at this stadium, each winning once.

In total, India and England have met five times in T20 World Cup matches, with India holding a slight advantage at 3-2.

Their competitive history in the tournament began in 2007 when Yuvraj Singh famously hit six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad during a group match, following a heated exchange with Andrew Flintoff. This remarkable feat marked the first instance of a batter hitting six sixes in a single over in T20 international cricket.

In T20 World Cup semifinals, the record stands even, with each team having one win, both of which were followed by championship victories.
