India's New ODI Squad for Sri Lanka Tri-Series

New Delhi [India], April 8: India has revealed a refreshed ODI lineup for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka, which will also include South Africa. This squad sees several newcomers, including Kashvee Gautam, N Shree Charani, and Shuchi Upadhyay, who are set to make their national debuts, marking a pivotal moment in their cricketing journeys, according to reports from ESPNcricinfo.

Harmanpreet Kaur is set to return as captain after missing the previous series against Ireland in January. Other players making their comeback include Sneh Rana, Yastika Bhatia, Arundhati Reddy, and Amanjot Kaur.

Interestingly, Shafali Verma is not part of the squad despite her strong performance in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) earlier this year, where she amassed 304 runs in nine innings, ranking fourth among run-scorers with a strike rate of 152.76.

In the last series against Ireland, which India won convincingly under Smriti Mandhana's captaincy, several players have been dropped this time around. Notable exclusions include Uma Chetry, Raghvi Bist, Sayali Satghare, Tanuja Kanwar, Minnu Mani, Priya Mishra, and Saima Thakor.

Kashvee Gautam, aged 21, was a standout in the WPL, taking 11 wickets, the highest by an Indian in nine matches, showcasing her impressive pace and precision. N Shree Charani, a 20-year-old left-arm spinner, played only two matches for Delhi Capitals but secured four wickets. Meanwhile, Shuchi Upadhyay earned her spot after an outstanding performance in the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy last December, where she was the third-highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets at an economy rate of 3.48 and an average of 15.44, earning the Player of the Tournament title as Madhya Pradesh won the championship.

This tri-series is a vital preparatory phase for all participating teams as they gear up for the Women’s ODI World Cup, which is set to take place in India later this year, between September and October.

India's squad for the women's ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka includes: Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Smriti Mandhana (vice-captain), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wicketkeeper), Yastika Bhatia (wicketkeeper), Deepti Sharma, Amanjot Kaur, Kashvee Gautam, Sneh Rana, Arundhati Reddy, Tejal Hasabnis, Sree Charani, and Shuchi Upadhyay.
