India U23 Football Team Dominates Bhutan in Tri-Nation Championship
India U23 Triumphs Over Bhutan
In an impressive display, the India U23 men's football team scored five goals against Bhutan during the U23 Tri-Nation Championship 2026, held at the Golden Jubilee Stadium in Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh. Suhail Ahmad Bhat was a standout performer, netting two goals at the 51st and 81st minutes, while Ricky Meetei Haobam (44'), Tomba Singh Haobam (79'), and Muhammed Ajsal (85') each contributed with a goal.
This victory positions India at the top of the U23 Tri-Nation Championship standings, tied on points with Tajikistan, who previously defeated Bhutan 1-0 earlier in the week.
Early Pressure and Breakthrough
Under the guidance of coach Naushad Moosa, the Blue Colts applied pressure from the outset, creating several scoring opportunities. Their persistence paid off just before half-time when Ricky Meetei Haobam struck from outside the box, finding the bottom corner to give India a crucial lead.
Second Half Dominance
Energized by their first goal, India came out strong in the second half, quickly doubling their advantage within six minutes. Adison Singh Thokchom made a significant contribution by assisting Suhail, who skillfully finished past the Bhutan goalkeeper.
India continued to threaten, coming close to extending their lead multiple times. In the 71st minute, Ajsal attempted a chip shot, but Bhutan's Gayden Rinchen cleared it off the line. Shortly after, Bhutan's captain, Pema Zangpo, made a crucial goalline clearance to deny Huidrom Thoi Singh's shot.
Final Minutes Unleash Goals
The floodgates opened in the 79th minute when substitute Tomba Singh Haobam scored from outside the box, making it 3-0. Just minutes later, Suhail added another goal, rushing into the box and finishing with precision.
Suhail then turned provider for the fifth goal, delivering a perfectly timed through ball to Ajsal, who finished confidently after taking a touch inside the box.
Upcoming Decider Against Tajikistan
With the match concluding, the India U23 team secured their position at the top of the table. They are set to face Tajikistan in a decisive match on March 31 at the Golden Jubilee Stadium.
