India U19 Dominates Malaysia with Record-Breaking Win in Asia Cup 2025
India's Impressive Victory
In a stunning display of cricket, the India U19 team triumphed over Malaysia by a staggering 315 runs during the ACC Men's Asia Cup 2025 held in Dubai on Tuesday. This victory marks India's third consecutive win in the tournament, solidifying their position at the top of Group A, while Malaysia remains winless.
Kundu's Historic Double Century
Wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu made headlines by scoring a remarkable double century, propelling India to a formidable total of 408 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. Malaysia won the toss and opted to field first.
Strong Start for India
Kundu's extraordinary innings made him the first Indian and only the second player overall to achieve a double century in a Youth ODI. Despite losing early wickets, India's top order laid a solid foundation. After captain Ayush Mhatre (14 off 7) and Vihaan Malhotra (7 off 14) were dismissed early, Vaibhav Suryavanshi (50 off 26) and Vedant Trivedi (90 off 106) steadied the innings, leading India to a total of 408/7.
Kundu's Explosive Performance
Kundu entered the game after Suryavanshi's dismissal and immediately began scoring aggressively. He formed a significant partnership of 209 runs off 181 balls with Trivedi and later added 87 runs in just 36 balls with Kanishk Chouhan. Kundu's innings included 17 boundaries and nine sixes.
Milestones Achieved
Kundu reached his fifty in just 44 balls and his century in 80 balls, setting the stage for a late-game surge. He completed his double century in a mere 121 balls, finishing with an unbeaten score of 209. This achievement not only set a new record for the highest score by an Indian in Under-19 ODIs, surpassing Ambati Rayudu's previous record of 177*, but also made him the second player to score a double century in Youth ODIs, following South Africa's Jorich Van Schalkwyk.
Malaysia's Struggles in the Chase
In their attempt to chase down the daunting target of 409, Malaysia faltered, being bowled out for just 93 runs in 32.1 overs. Hamzah Panggi was the top scorer for Malaysia with 35 runs off 52 balls. Deepesh Devendran was the standout bowler for India, claiming 5 wickets for just 22 runs in 7 overs, while Udhav Mohan contributed with two wickets.
