India Secures Hosting Rights for 2028 Indoor Championships

Bahadur Singh Sagoo, the president of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), announced that India has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2028 World Athletics Indoor Championships. This prestigious event is set to take place in Bhubaneswar at the Kalinga Indoor Stadium, as confirmed by Sagoo on Thursday.

The decision to grant India the hosting rights was made during a meeting of the World Athletics Council held in Torun, Poland, where the 2026 edition is scheduled for March 20 to 22.

In January, members of the World Athletics Council visited the Kalinga Indoor Stadium in Odisha and expressed satisfaction with the venue's facilities.

Odisha is rapidly emerging as a key hub for track and field events. Notably, the first National Indoor Athletics Championships will take place at the Kalinga Indoor Stadium on March 24 and 25.

Sagoo remarked, "Indian athletes have been performing admirably on the international stage. We are optimistic that more young talents will achieve success at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games," he added.
