Fielding Challenges for Team India

India's ongoing difficulties in fielding were evident during their crucial match against the West Indies in the ICC T20 World Cup at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. The team faced a setback with several missed opportunities, including a significant drop by Abhishek Sharma in the fifth over, which could have led to the dismissal of Roston Chase.

Later in the match, during the penultimate over bowled by Arshdeep Singh, Sharma again failed to secure a catch that would have dismissed Rovman Powell. This incident marked India's total of 13 dropped catches in the tournament, the highest among all teams, and their catching efficiency stands at a disappointing 71.7%, the lowest among the Super 8 teams.

West Indies Sets a Challenging Target

In the match, India won the toss and chose to field first. The West Indies opened strong with Roston Chase scoring 40 runs off 25 balls, supported by captain Shai Hope, who contributed 32 runs from 33 balls. The duo established a solid opening partnership of 68 runs. However, the West Indies faced a dip in momentum, falling to 119/4 in 14.1 overs, despite a quick 27 runs from Shimron Hetmyer off just 12 balls.

The innings was revitalized by Jason Holder, who scored an unbeaten 37 runs from 22 balls, and Rovman Powell, who added 34 runs off 19 balls. Together, they propelled the West Indies to a total of 195 runs for 4 wickets in their 20 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India, taking 2 wickets for 36 runs in four overs, while both Varun Chakaravarthy and Hardik Pandya ended with figures of 1 wicket for 40 runs in their respective four-over spells.
