On Day 6 of the Asian Games 2026, India achieved a remarkable feat by winning six medals, including two golds in shooting. Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet's victory in the 10m air pistol mixed team event set a new Asian record. The day also saw silver medals in shooting and athletics, with Gulveer Singh excelling in the men's 10,000m race. India's Gold Medal Triumph in Shooting

On Day 6 of the Asian Games 2026, shooters Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet secured India's second gold medal by winning the mixed team event in the 10m air pistol category. The duo delivered an impressive performance, scoring 484.6 points, which outperformed South Korea's silver-winning score of 478.0 points. Notably, they also set a new Asian record, surpassing the previous mark of 481.3 points established by Uzbekistan earlier this year.


Silver Medals in Shooting and Athletics

India's medal tally for the day included two silver and three bronze medals, bringing the total to 23 medals: two gold, nine silver, and 12 bronze. The first silver was earned in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team event, where Rudrankksh Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, and Niraj Kumar finished second with a score of 1762-94x, narrowly missing gold to China, who scored 1766-95x. South Korea took bronze with 1751-87x. In individual finals, Tomar and Niraj placed fifth and eighth, respectively.


Another silver came from Gulveer Singh in the men's 10,000m race at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. He clocked 28:29.38, finishing just behind Bahrain's Birhanu Balew, who won with a time of 28:27.51. Gulveer's performance marked an improvement from his bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.


India's Bronze Medal Achievements

Among the bronze medalists was Manpreet Kaur in women's shot put, who achieved her best throw of 17.17m on her fourth attempt. China's Song Jiayuan won gold with 19.40m, while Zhang Linru took silver with 18.14m. In women's pole vault, Baranica Elangovan made history by winning India's first-ever Asian Games medal in this event, clearing 4.15m.


In table tennis, the duo of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale secured a bronze in mixed doubles after reaching the semi-finals, despite losing to China's Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha.


Further Medal Prospects in Squash and Kabaddi

India is set to add more medals in squash, with Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar advancing to the mixed doubles semi-finals. Abhay Singh also reached the men's singles semi-finals, while Anahat Singh progressed to the women's singles last four. Both Indian kabaddi teams have reached the finals, with the women's team defeating Nepal and the men's team overcoming Thailand.


In hockey, the Indian women's team triumphed over Japan with a score of 3-1 in their Pool B match.

In athletics, Vishal TK qualified for the men's 400m final, while Kiran and Prachi also advanced in the women's 400m. In swimming, Rishabh Das set a new national record in the men's 200m backstroke, finishing sixth with a time of 1:58.77. Other athletes faced mixed results, with some exiting in fencing, boxing, equestrian, canoe sprint, weightlifting, and esports.


Despite these challenges, India concluded Day 6 with a total of two gold, nine silver, and 12 bronze medals, placing 12th in the overall standings.
