India Shines at World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 with Five Medals

Bangkok, Thailand - March 15: India wrapped up its participation in the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 held in Bangkok, securing an impressive total of five medals, which included one gold, three silver, and one bronze. This achievement highlights the ongoing development of the nation’s youth boxing program on the global stage.
Chandrika Pujari led the Indian team with an outstanding performance in the women's 51 kg final, where she triumphed over Uzbekistan's Mardonova Nazokat by unanimous decision, as reported in an official release.
The Indian U-19 men's and women's teams showcased their skills across various Youth Olympic weight categories, with half of the participants returning home adorned with medals after competing against formidable international rivals.
With the World Boxing President, Gennadiy Golovkin, and BFI President, Ajay Singh, observing closely, the event in Bangkok demonstrated the strengthening of India's youth boxing framework. Structured training pathways, consistent international exposure, and timely national competitions are enabling young athletes to transition confidently onto the world stage, further solidifying India's emerging status in boxing.
Three Indian boxers earned silver medals after reaching the finals in their respective weight classes. Gunjan (48kg) faced a tough opponent from England, losing by a 5-0 decision, while Joyshree Devi (54kg) fought valiantly but was defeated 4-1 by a competitor from the United States. In the men's 50kg category, L. Ambekar Meetei also claimed silver after losing his final match to a boxer from Ukraine.
Earlier in the tournament, Radhamani Longjam (57kg) secured a bronze medal after a hard-fought semifinal against Ukraine's Yevanhelina Petruk.
The World Boxing Futures Cup, which took place from March 8 to 15, featured some of the most promising young boxers competing in Youth Olympic weight divisions. With the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games approaching, this event served as an essential platform for India's emerging talents to gauge their abilities against international competition as they prepare for one of the most significant milestones in youth sports.
