India Dominates at Asian Armwrestling Championship

The 23rd Asian Armwrestling Championship and the 22nd Asian Para-Armwrestling Championship, organized by the People's Arm Wrestling Federation of India (PAFI), concluded in New Delhi on Saturday, with India achieving an impressive haul of 176 medals across various categories.


This prestigious event attracted arm wrestling competitors from 14 nations, showcasing their skills and strength. PAFI reported that the Indian team exhibited remarkable technique and power throughout the tournament.


The closing ceremony featured Kalraj Mishra, the former Governor of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, as well as a former Union Cabinet Minister for MSME. He was honored by Assen Hodjitorodov, the President of the World Arm Wrestling Federation, for his esteemed presence at the finals. Also in attendance were Preeti Jhangiani, President of PAFI and Vice President of the Asian Arm Wrestling Federation, along with Parvin Dabas, Co-Founder of Pro Panja League.


During the event, Mishra emphasized the importance of focus and inner strength in arm wrestling, congratulating all participants for their exceptional skills and determination. He noted, "India has a rich tradition of strength-based sports, and it is encouraging to see contemporary techniques being utilized to advance the sport."


He also expressed solidarity with Indian soldiers, stating, "We stand united with our brave soldiers during these challenging times. Their efforts to ensure our safety are commendable."


Preeti Jhangiani expressed optimism about the future of arm wrestling in India, stating, "The Asian Arm Wrestling Federation is dedicated to enhancing the profile of arm wrestling in India. The outstanding performance of our athletes at this championship reinforces our confidence in the potential of Indian arm wrestlers on the international stage."


Parvin Dabas, co-founder of Pro Panja League, praised the positive impact of the week-long championship, saying, "We are excited to witness the growth of arm wrestling in India and across Asia. Events like this highlight the incredible talent and commitment of athletes in this sport."

Kazakhstan led the medal standings with a total of 287 medals (159 Gold, 108 Silver, 30 Bronze), accumulating 2501 points.


India secured second place with 176 medals (24 Gold, 56 Silver, and 96 Bronze), totaling 1543 points.


This championship has established a new standard for arm wrestling events in the region and has played a significant role in promoting awareness of the sport.
