India Shines at New Delhi 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix with Multiple Golds
Outstanding Performances by Indian Athletes
In a remarkable display of talent, India excelled on the second day of the New Delhi 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix, achieving numerous podium finishes in both track and field events, including several clean sweeps.
The standout moment of the day was in the Men's Javelin Throw F43/F44/F64, where Paralympic champion Sumit Antil led an all-Indian podium. Antil secured the gold medal with an impressive throw of 69.25 meters, while Pushpendra Singh took silver with a throw of 56.91 meters, and Poonam Ram earned bronze with 49.48 meters.
Following his victory, Sumit Antil expressed his satisfaction, stating, "We have several tournaments ahead, and I aim to perform well. This is an off-season loading phase for me. I was aiming for around 67-68 meters, but I exceeded my expectations today with 69.25 meters. My team and I are thrilled with this result."
He further noted, "I won't alter my technique since we are progressing well in our training. We just need the right conditions for the throw to land perfectly. Participating in tournaments helps me find those conditions. My goal is to reach 75 meters at the Asian Games, which I haven't achieved in practice yet, but I'm working on improving my technique and strength to reach that target."
India also showcased its prowess in the Men's 400m Run T13, where Subodh Bhatt clinched gold in 51.88 seconds, followed by Priyanshu Kaushik with silver in 53.19 seconds and Avnil Kumar taking bronze in 56.91 seconds.
In the Men's 400m Run T46/T47, Bhavikkumar Din Bharwad won gold with a time of 49.89 seconds, while Jasbeer finished closely behind to secure silver in 50.09 seconds. Ivan Cvetkovic from Serbia took bronze with a time of 50.93 seconds.
The wheelchair category also saw India dominate the Men's 400m Run T53/T54, with Manojkumar Sabapathi winning gold in 54.33 seconds, Anil Kumar earning silver in 57.57 seconds, and Manikandan Jothi claiming bronze with a time of 1:01.94.
In the Women's events, Indian athletes also performed admirably. Tejalben Amraji Damor won gold in the Women's 400m Run T11/T12 with a time of 57.53 seconds, while Lalitha Killaka secured silver in 1:07.92, and Shalini Chaudhary completed another Indian podium sweep with bronze in 1:16.79.
In field events, Lakshmi took gold in the Women's Shot Put F36/F37/F40 with a throw of 7.76 meters, while Akutai Sitaram Ulbhagat won silver with 5.49 meters, and Bhutan's Chimi Dema secured bronze with 5.27 meters.
India also swept the podium in the Men's Long Jump T42/T63, with Shaliesh Kumar winning gold with a jump of 5.47 meters, Ramsingbhai Govindbhai Padhiyar taking silver with 4.68 meters, and Solairaj Jagannathan earning bronze with 3.23 meters.
Another clean sweep occurred in the Men's Shot Put F46, where Rohit Kumar clinched gold with a throw of 14.35 meters, Devendra Singh Gurjar won silver with 13.97 meters, and Lokesh Akula secured bronze with 10.92 meters.
India continued its strong performance in throwing events, with Sahil Salim Sayyad winning gold in the Men's Discus Throw F51/F55 with a throw of 36.83 meters, followed by Sukhchain with silver (30.49 meters) and Sudhir with bronze (28.78 meters).
In the Men's Javelin Throw F12/F13, Manjeet secured gold with a throw of 57.86 meters, Pratik Amrutrao Patil won silver with 50.43 meters, and Irfan Diwan claimed bronze with 45.39 meters, marking yet another podium sweep for India.
India also excelled in the Men's Javelin Throw F40/F41, with Sunil Kumar winning gold with a throw of 32.58 meters, Prince Kumar taking silver with 31.23 meters, and Kathir Dhanasekaran finishing with bronze at 18.73 meters.
Among other notable performances, Mohit Pal won gold in the Men's 400m Run T12 with a time of 54.39 seconds, while Lucky Yadav secured silver in 1:04.27.
International competitors also showcased their skills during the event. In the Men's 400m Run T20, Russia swept the medals, led by Sergei Makarov, who won gold in 49.20 seconds. Meanwhile, Natalia Sainchina of Russia secured gold in the Women's 400m Run T20, clocking 1:00.52.
With numerous podium sweeps and impressive performances, Indian para athletes continue to highlight their growing strength on the global stage at the New Delhi 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix.
