India's Impressive Performance at ISSF World Cup
Buenos Aires [Argentina], April 11: India wrapped up its campaign at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup with an impressive tally of eight medals, which included four golds, two silvers, and two bronzes.
On Thursday, India secured the second position in the overall medal standings, trailing behind China, which led with a total of 11 medals comprising five golds, three silvers, and three bronzes, as reported by Olympics.com.
Saurabh Chaudhary and Suruchi Singh triumphed over Manu Bhaker, a two-time Olympic medalist, and Ravinder Singh with a score of 16-8 in the bronze medal playoff, earning their place on the podium.
Although Bhaker clinched a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the 10m air pistol mixed team alongside Sarabjot Singh, who did not participate in this tournament, her performance here was less favorable.
In the qualifiers, Tokyo 2020 Olympian Saurabh and Suruchi finished third with a combined score of 581-26x, where Suruchi scored 291 and Saurabh 290. Manu (287) and Ravinder Singh (292) fell short, finishing fourth.
The gold medal match featured China's Ma Qianke and Zhang Yifan (582-23x) against Yao Qianxun and Hu Kai (582-17x), the top qualifiers. Qianke and Yifan emerged victorious, winning the gold with a score of 16-10.
India's gold medalists at this year's first ISSF World Cup included Sift Kaur Samra (women's 50m rifle 3 positions), Rudrankksh Patil (men's 10m air rifle), Suruchi Singh (women's 10m air pistol), and Vijayveer Sidhu (men's 25m rapid-fire pistol). Unfortunately, Manu left without a medal, finishing 13th in the women's 10m air pistol qualifiers and 6th in the 25m pistol event after reaching the medal round.
Notably, Swapnil Kusale, another bronze medalist from the 2024 Olympics, did not compete in this event.
