India Shines at Commonwealth Games 2026 with 39 Medals

New Delhi, Aug 3: Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, has praised India's achievement of securing fourth place with a total of 39 medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 held in Glasgow. This edition was notably smaller, featuring only 10 sports, a reduction of nine from the Birmingham 2022 Games, where India earned 30 medals.
India's campaign in Glasgow concluded with a medal tally of 39, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze medals.
Mandaviya expressed pride in India's performance, stating, "India concludes the Commonwealth Games 2026 with a remarkable fourth-place finish. Despite the reduced number of sports in Glasgow, Team India has improved its medal count from 30 in Birmingham 2022 to 39 this year in the comparable events.
"The progress and strength of Indian sports are evident under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. I am proud of every athlete, coach, and support staff member who dedicated themselves to representing the Tricolour," he shared on social media.
The Commonwealth Games 2026 officially wrapped up in Glasgow on Sunday, with India set to host the centenary edition of the Games in Ahmedabad in 2030.
"As we gear up to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030, we are dedicated to making it one of the most memorable editions in the history of the Games," he added.
The closing ceremony marked the end of 11 exciting days of sports and heralded a new chapter for the Commonwealth movement.
The ceremonial handover of the Commonwealth Games flag to Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi signified the start of India's preparations for the landmark centenary edition in Ahmedabad.
India's journey towards Ahmedabad 2030 commenced with a cultural performance featuring renowned singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan and former Miss World Manushi Chhillar.
An audiovisual presentation highlighted India's sporting history while providing a preview of the upcoming centenary Commonwealth Games.
The 2030 edition is particularly significant as it will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Commonwealth Games, making India only the second country after Australia to host the event twice.
