India's Athletics Success at Asian Games 2026
On September 24, India kicked off its athletics journey at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, securing two medals. The mixed 4x400m relay team earned a silver medal, while Seema Kumari achieved a bronze in the women's 10,000m, marking India's first athletics medal of the event.
So far, India has amassed a total of 17 medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which includes one gold, seven silver, and nine bronze medals.
Relay Team and Individual Achievements
The relay team, consisting of TS Manu, MR Poovamma, Vishal TK, and Vithya Ramraj, finished with a time of 3:14.46, securing second place behind Bahrain, which set a new Games record at 3:12.87.
In the women's 10,000m, Seema Kumari clocked 32:50.05 to take home the bronze, while Bahrain's Winfred Yavi won gold with a time of 32:39.18, and Japan's Nozomi Tanaka took silver at 32:41.54.
Historic Wins in Skeet Shooting
Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal made history by winning a bronze medal in the mixed team skeet event, marking India's first medal in this category at the Asian Games.
This achievement added to India's skeet medal tally, which included a bronze in the men's team event and another in the women's team event earlier in the competition.
Wushu and Rowing Highlights
In wushu, Roshibina Devi Naorem secured her second consecutive silver medal after a tough match against China's Zhang Xiaoyu in the women's 60kg sanda final, losing 0-2.
India's rowers also contributed to the medal count, with Satnam Singh and Salman Khan finishing third in the men's double sculls, marking the country's first medal in this event.
Advancements in Track and Field
Indian sprinters Animesh Kujur and Gurindervir Singh progressed to the men's 100m semifinals, finishing third and second in their respective heats.
Kujur clocked 10.36 seconds, while Gurindervir finished with a time of 10.38 seconds.
Kabaddi and Squash Success
Both Indian kabaddi teams continued their winning streak, with the men's team defeating Chinese Taipei 37-21 and the women's team overpowering Japan 50-25, securing spots in the semifinals.
In squash, players like Anahat Singh and Tanvi Khanna advanced to the singles quarterfinals, showcasing India's strength in the sport.
Hockey and Boxing Updates
In hockey, Dilpreet Singh scored a hat-trick, leading India to an 8-2 victory over Korea, maintaining their top position in Pool A.
In boxing, Parveen advanced to the women's 65kg quarterfinals after receiving a walkover, while Sakshi Chaudhary faced a narrow defeat.
Gymnastics and Athletics Final Results
Pranati Nayak finished sixth in the women's vault final, while Asha Ilango narrowly missed a medal in the women's triple jump, finishing fourth with a distance of 13.83m.
