Prime Minister Modi Praises Indian Athletes

On June 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his admiration for the Indian athletes following their remarkable achievements at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 held in Gumi, South Korea.


The Indian team secured a total of 24 medals, finishing second overall, just behind China. Their haul included eight gold, ten silver, and six bronze medals, while China led the medal table with 26 medals, comprising 15 gold, eight silver, and three bronze.


PM Modi took to X to share his pride, stating, "India is proud of our contingent for their stupendous performance at the recently held 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea. The hard work and determination of every athlete were clearly visible throughout the tournament. Best wishes to the athletes for their future endeavours."

Highlights from the Final Day of Competition

The final day of the championships drew significant attention to the men's javelin throw event. Sachin Yadav, making his international debut, achieved a personal best of 85.16m, earning a silver medal, while Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem took gold with a throw of 86.40m.


Animesh Kujur also made headlines by winning a bronze medal in the men's 200m. Despite a false start by a Chinese competitor, Kujur maintained his focus and finished with a time of 20.32 seconds, breaking his own national record of 20.40 seconds set earlier in Kochi.


In the women's 4x100m relay, the Indian team consisting of Srabani Nanda, SS Sneha, Abhinaya Rajarajan, and Nithya Gandhe secured silver with a time of 43.86 seconds, while China claimed gold and Thailand took home bronze.


Distance runner Parul Chaudhary added another silver to her collection, having previously won silver in the women's 3,000m steeplechase, now adding a silver in the 5000m event.


Pooja also contributed to the medal tally with a bronze in the 800m, having already secured a silver in the 1500m. Additionally, Vithya Ramraj clinched bronze in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 56.46 seconds. However, Jyothi Yarraji and Nithya Gandhe were unable to secure medals in the women's 200m.
