India Shines at 2025 Under-20 Wrestling Championship with Impressive Medal Haul

India's Strong Performance at the Championship
The 2025 Under-20 Wrestling Championship wrapped up on Sunday, showcasing the final matches in five weight categories of Freestyle Wrestling. The Indian team made a remarkable showing, finishing as the runner-up with a total of two gold medals, one silver, and five bronze medals, accumulating 157 points overall. Iran emerged as the champion, taking home the Championship Trophy.
Ankush, competing in the 57kg category, displayed exceptional skill throughout the tournament. He triumphed over his Kazakh opponent in the final with a score of 7-4, having previously defeated top wrestlers from Iran (10-0), Japan (5-0), and Uzbekistan (9-0) without allowing any points against him until the final, as reported by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
Amit, in the 79 kg category, began his journey with a bye, followed by a victory by fall against a Turkmenistan wrestler in the quarterfinals. He then showcased his prowess by defeating an Uzbek wrestler with a technical superiority score of 10-0 in the semifinals. In a tightly contested final, Amit narrowly defeated his Iranian rival 5-4, securing India's second gold medal.
Ashwani, competing at 65 kg, started strong by defeating a Mongolian wrestler by fall in the qualification round and continued his success against wrestlers from Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. However, he ultimately fell short in the final, earning a silver medal.
The much-anticipated match between India and Pakistan did not occur due to group separation, but Pakistani wrestler Mohd. Abdulla managed to secure a bronze by defeating a Korean opponent.
Saurabh (70 kg) claimed victory against a Chinese wrestler in the bronze medal match, while Sachin (86 kg) and Sachin (92 kg) also won their bouts against Korean and Mongolian wrestlers, respectively. Vishal (97 kg) dominated his Uzbek opponent with a technical superiority win of 10-0.
Jaspooran Singh (125 kg) earned a bronze medal with an impressive technical superiority win of 11-0 against Uzbekistan, having previously achieved significant victories over strong competitors from Iran and Kyrgyzstan before losing to Kazakhstan in the semifinals.
With this outstanding performance, the Indian Under-20 wrestling teams concluded the championship with a total of 21 medals, including 10 gold, three silver, and eight bronze medals across all styles, marking a historic achievement that highlights the rising prominence of Indian wrestling on the international stage.
