India Sets Record with Fourth 250-Plus Score in T20 Cricket
Historic Achievement in Men's T20 Cricket
The Indian cricket team has achieved a remarkable milestone in Men's T20 cricket by scoring its fourth total of over 250 runs in 2026, establishing a new record for the most such scores by any team within a single calendar year. This latest high score was recorded during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
A Year of High-Scoring Feats
India previously set a score of 271/5 against New Zealand during the fifth T20I of the home series in Thiruvananthapuram. Following this, the team achieved three additional scores exceeding 250 runs in the T20 World Cup 2026.
The Men in Blue scored 256/4 against Zimbabwe during the Super 8 stage in Chennai, followed by 253/7 against England in the semi-final at Wankhede Stadium. In the final, they posted 255/5 against New Zealand on March 8.
Leading the Global T20 Charge
This accomplishment underscores India's dominance in the shortest format of the game this year, particularly in the T20 World Cup. India becomes only the second team in Men's T20 history to achieve three scores over 250 in a single T20 competition, following Sunrisers Hyderabad's feat in the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Currently, India leads with seven 250-plus totals, while Sunrisers Hyderabad follows with five. Other teams with similar scores include West Indies (3), Zimbabwe (3), and Surrey (3).
T20 World Cup Final Highlights
In the final match, New Zealand won the toss and chose to field first. However, a stunning return to form from Abhishek Sharma, who scored 52 runs off 21 balls with six fours and three sixes, along with a 98-run partnership with Samson, made New Zealand regret their decision.
Samson then formed a century partnership with Ishan Kishan, who contributed 54 runs off 25 balls, including four boundaries and four sixes, pushing India past the 200-run mark in the 16th over. After a brief slowdown, Shivam Dube added valuable runs, finishing with 26 not out off eight balls, leading India to a total of 255/5, the highest in T20 World Cup history.
James Neesham was the standout bowler for New Zealand, taking 3 wickets for 46 runs.
