India Secures Series Victory Against Afghanistan with Dominant ODI Win
India's Commanding Win
In a remarkable performance, India triumphed over Afghanistan by 170 runs in the second ODI at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow, thereby clinching a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Afghanistan's Response
Facing a daunting target of 403 runs, Afghanistan's opening pair, Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmatullah Gurbaz, quickly amassed 52 runs for the first wicket. Gurnoor Brar, in just his second ODI, claimed the first wicket by dismissing Gurbaz in the eighth over. Gurbaz scored 41 runs off 33 balls, featuring seven fours and a six. Earlier, debutant Prince Yadav had dismissed Gurbaz, but the third umpire ruled it a no-ball, delaying Yadav's first international wicket.
Zadran followed soon after, caught out by Prince off Arshdeep Singh's bowling, contributing 21 runs from 31 balls. A partnership of 57 runs between Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah was broken by Washington Sundar, with Atal scoring a solid 42 off 50 balls. Darwish Rasooli, who had to retire hurt due to cramps, was replaced by Hashmatullah Shahidi, who was dismissed by Brar on his first ball. Prince Yadav secured his first international wicket by taking out Nangeyalia Kharote in the 31st over. Rashid Khan added 12 runs before being dismissed by Arshdeep. Rahmat Shah fought valiantly, scoring 79 runs off 89 balls, but was ultimately dismissed by Prince in the 45th over, leading to Afghanistan's total of 232 runs.
India's Batting Brilliance
Earlier in the match, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan showcased their batting prowess, both scoring centuries that propelled India to a total exceeding 400 runs. After being asked to bat first, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early, dismissed by Mohammad Saleem Safi. Gill joined Rohit Sharma at the crease, where Sharma accelerated the scoring before being bowled by Rashid Khan for 48 runs.
