Upcoming Test Series Between India and England

The highly anticipated five-match Test series between India and England is set to commence on June 20. The opening match will take place at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds, with only a few days remaining until the first ball is bowled. A significant change has been announced ahead of this series: it will now be known as the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, named after former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar and England's leading wicket-taker, James Anderson.

Change in Trophy Name

Previously, this trophy was referred to as the Pataudi Trophy in honor of former Indian captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. The decision to rename the trophy was made by the England and Wales Cricket Board. Although the name has been updated, the unveiling of the new trophy has yet to occur. It was initially scheduled to be revealed on June 14 during the final of the World Test Championship's third cycle.

Delay in Trophy Unveiling

The reason for the delay in the trophy's unveiling has now been clarified. Reports indicate that the recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12 has caused this postponement. An official from the BCCI stated that the unveiling was delayed due to the tragic incident. However, it has not been canceled, and there is hope that the trophy will be unveiled before the series begins.

Details of the Plane Crash

It is important to note that the plane crash in Ahmedabad resulted in the loss of British citizens as well. The Air India flight was en route to London and crashed just minutes after takeoff. According to Air India, the passengers included 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese citizens, along with 12 crew members on board.
