Mumbai: In a nail-biting encounter, the reigning champions India triumphed over England by a narrow margin of seven runs in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup held on Thursday.


India is set to face New Zealand in the final match on Sunday.


After being put to bat first, opener Sanju Samson delivered an explosive performance, smashing seven sixes and eight fours to score 89 runs off just 42 balls, helping India reach a formidable total of 253.


Contributions from Shivam Dube (43), Ishan Kishan (39), Hardik Pandya (27), and Tilak Varma (21) further bolstered the team's score.


In response, England's chase fell short despite Jacob Bethell's remarkable century of 105 runs from 48 balls, as they finished at 246 for seven in their allotted 20 overs.


Jasprit Bumrah was India's standout bowler, taking one wicket for 33 runs, while Hardik Pandya claimed two wickets for 38 runs.
