India's Youth Boxing Team Heads to Amman
New Delhi [India], April 18: India has announced a robust 56-member youth boxing team, comprising 30 athletes in the U-15 category and 26 in the U-17 category, for the Asian U-15 & U-17 Boxing Championships taking place in Amman, Jordan, from April 17 to May 1. This championship marks the inaugural event organized by Asian Boxing, receiving endorsements from both the Olympic Council of Asia and the newly established World Boxing, according to a statement from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
Notable athletes in the U-17 boys' team include Sahil Duhan and Devansh, who earned silver and bronze medals, respectively, at the 2024 Asian Junior Championship. Tikam Singh, a gold medalist at the SGFI 2024, is also part of the squad. On the girls' side, medalists from the 2024 Asian School Boys & Girls Boxing Championships in Al Ain include Samiksha Singh, Anshika, and Khushi Chand.
The U-15 team features Ravi Sihag, who secured a bronze medal at the Asian School Boys Championship in Al Ain in 2024, alongside Trushna Mohite, the 2024 sub-junior national girls boxing champion in the 64-67 kg category.
These promising young boxers symbolize the bright future of Indian boxing, especially as the nation sets its sights on the 2036 Olympics. Competing in this prestigious championship, they embody the aspirations of a nation and have the potential to motivate the next generation of boxers.
The Interim Committee has reaffirmed the values of the Boxing Federation of India by ensuring that every athlete receives the necessary support and opportunities to excel. They acted promptly to resolve any issues and secured India's participation in this vital championship.
The team, along with coaching staff and officials, departed for Amman on April 17, with preliminary matches set to commence on April 19 following the draw on April 18.
