India A Men's Hockey Team Set for European Challenge
The India A Men's Hockey Team is gearing up for their European tour, with their first match scheduled against Ireland at the Hockey Club Oranje-Rood in Eindhoven, Netherlands, as announced by Hockey India.
This European tour, organized by Hockey India, includes a total of eight matches against some of the leading teams in Europe, aimed at providing essential international experience to a blend of both emerging and seasoned players.
Leading the squad is Captain Sanjay, who expressed enthusiasm about the tour, stating, “This is a fantastic opportunity for our team. We anticipate facing tough competition, and we are eager to challenge ourselves against these formidable teams. Our squad combines youth and experience, which will be beneficial in these matches.”
The India A team will compete in two matches each against Ireland, France, and the Netherlands, along with single matches against England and Belgium. These competitive fixtures are expected to assess the depth and readiness of India's talent pool as the national team aims to strengthen its pipeline for the senior squad.
Captain Sanjay acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting, “We understand the difficulties we will face, especially since we are playing away from home. However, the team has trained well, and our senior players are assisting the younger members in adapting to the demands of high-level competition.”
While the opening match is against Ireland, the team is focused on the broader objectives of the tour. Sanjay emphasized that this tour serves as a crucial step towards joining the Indian Men's Hockey Team.
He remarked, “The India A Men's Hockey Team's European tour is a pathway to the senior squad. We are all motivated to elevate our performance to meet European hockey standards and make a lasting impression on the matches, ensuring that senior coaches and selectors take notice.”
“Although winning is important, our primary focus will be on playing quality hockey throughout the next two weeks. We aim to refine our combinations and execute our strategies effectively. We have dedicated ourselves to training, and we hope that our efforts will be evident on the field,” he concluded.
The first match between India A and Ireland is set for July 8.
