New Delhi, December 27: The second Harish Sharma 3 on 3 All India Basketball Championship 2025 was officially launched by Delhi Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma at the KD Jadhav Hall in IG Stadium. This championship honors the late Harish Sharma, an esteemed international basketball player and sports administrator.

During the inauguration, Verma highlighted the Delhi government's commitment to sports, stating, “We have introduced the highest cash rewards in the nation for Olympic and international medalists. We are optimistic that our athletes will achieve remarkable success in the future.”

The first day of the championship featured 107 matches, with an additional 50 scheduled for the second day. A total of 87 teams, comprising 63 men's teams and 24 women's teams from across the country, are competing in this two-day event.

Sudhanshu Mittal, Co-Chairperson of the Organising Committee, remarked, “Today marks a significant milestone. The 3 on 3 format represents the future of basketball, much like how T20 transformed cricket. This championship pays homage to Harish Sharma's legacy, and we are dedicated to elevating basketball to new heights.”

Roopam Harish Sharma, Chairperson of the Organising Committee, expressed pride in the championship's endorsement from FIBA, emphasizing that the 3 on 3 format allows every player a chance to participate.

Mukesh Kalia, President of the Delhi Basket Association (DBA), noted that this championship serves as a tribute to the late Harish Sharma and as preparation for the Senior National 3 on 3 tournament set to take place in Delhi from January 28 to 31.

Notable attendees included former Union Minister and BJP leader Vijay Goel, former Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra, and Arjuna Award winners such as Suman Sharma, Sajjan Singh Cheema, Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, and Padma Shri & Arjuna awardee Prashanti Singh.

The champions in both the men's and women's categories will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh, while the second and third place teams will earn Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000, respectively.

The championship is being held across three basketball courts simultaneously, providing an exhilarating experience for both players and fans. Organized by the Prithvi Nath Club (PNC) in collaboration with the Delhi Basketball Association (DBA), the event is officially sanctioned by the Basketball Federation of India (BFI).

Additionally, the tournament is endorsed by FIBA 3 on 3, continuing PNC's tradition of promoting basketball through prestigious events like the Master Prithvi Nath All India Basketball Championship, which honors Harish Sharma's father.
