Nominees for ICC Men's Player of the Month

On Monday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the nominees for the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for June 2026. The list includes Bangladesh's all-rounder Mossadek Hossain, New Zealand's fast bowler Nathan Smith, and India's captain Shubman Gill, all recognized for their exceptional performances across various formats.

Mossadek Hossain's Remarkable Comeback

Mossadek Hossain made a stunning return to international cricket after a four-year hiatus, playing a crucial role in Bangladesh's historic 2-1 ODI series win against Australia. His impressive performances earned him the Player of the Series title.

In his first international match since November 2022, Mossadek scored an unbeaten 86, took two wickets, and executed a remarkable running catch, contributing to an 86-run victory. He concluded the series as Bangladesh's top run-scorer with 157 runs, including two half-centuries, highlighting his significance in this memorable ODI achievement.

Nathan Smith's Stellar Performance

Nathan Smith had an exceptional month, leading New Zealand's bowling attack during a thrilling 2-1 Test series victory over England. He emerged as the leading wicket-taker of the series with 16 wickets and was honored as Player of the Series, despite New Zealand's loss in the first Test at Lord's.

His standout performance occurred in that initial Test, where he took three wickets in the first innings and followed up with an impressive 6/70 in the second. Smith continued to provide vital breakthroughs as New Zealand rebounded to win the next two Tests, achieving a remarkable comeback series victory. With several key fast bowlers injured, Smith rose to the occasion, leading a depleted bowling unit with excellence.

Shubman Gill's Dominance with the Bat

Shubman Gill, the captain of India, had a prolific month with the bat across all formats. He kicked off June with a composed 126 in India's innings victory over Afghanistan in a one-off Test, marking his 11th Test century, which included 15 fours and a six.

Gill maintained his form in the ODI series, accumulating 238 runs in just two innings. He scored a brisk 84 off 66 balls in the first ODI and followed it up with a sensational 154 from only 110 balls in Lucknow. Despite experiencing cramps during his innings, Gill accelerated towards the end, securing another Player of the Match award and also being named Player of the Series for his outstanding contributions.
