Hyderabad Heroes Dominate Rugby Premier League
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 22: Javed Hussain emerged as a standout player on Saturday, leading the Hyderabad Heroes to a remarkable victory during the inaugural season of the Rugby Premier League at the Shahaji Raje Bhosale Sports Complex in Mumbai. Alongside the Heroes, the Chennai Bulls and Kalinga Tigers also secured significant wins. The Hyderabad Heroes now boast an impressive record, having won all five of their matches in the tournament, as reported by the Rugby Premier League.
The day's first match saw the Chennai Bulls bounce back from a challenging start, overcoming a 17-point deficit to triumph 31-24 against the Bengaluru Bravehearts. The Bulls struck first with a try from Joseva Talacolo, followed by a successful conversion from Joaquin Pellandini. Despite a strong start to the season, the Bulls faced a tough challenge from the Bravehearts, who had previously defeated them.
Philip Wokorach and Tone Shiu each scored two tries for the Bravehearts, with Akuila Rokolisoa successfully converting his kicks, allowing the Bravehearts to take a commanding 24-7 lead at halftime.
However, the second half saw a dramatic shift as Terry Kennedy and Joseva Talacolo each scored for the Bulls, with Filipe Sauturaga converting both tries. With just a quarter of the game remaining, the Bulls managed to take a narrow lead.
In the closing minutes, Vaafauese Maliko added another try, ensuring the Bulls secured the victory.
In the second match, the Hyderabad Heroes showcased their skills, with Javed Hussain leading the charge in a 24-17 win against the Mumbai Dreamers.
The Heroes opened the scoring with a brilliant individual effort from Javed Hussain, followed by a quick conversion from Terio Tamani. The Mumbai Dreamers responded with a try from Akash Balmiki, but Hussain quickly added another try for the Heroes, extending their lead.
The Dreamers fought back, with Elias Hancock scoring a try and Akash Balmiki converting, leveling the score at 12-12 by halftime.
In the second half, Nayan K gave the Dreamers a slight edge with a try, but the Heroes quickly equalized with a try from Kevin Wekesa. The Heroes maintained their composure under pressure, and Wolfram Hacker scored the final try, with Tamani converting to seal the win, placing the Heroes at the top of the table.
The day's final match featured the Kalinga Black Tigers, who achieved their first victory of the season with a hard-fought 19-15 win over the Delhi Redz.
The Delhi Redz started strong, with Patrick Okongo scoring an early try. The Kalinga Black Tigers responded with a try from Asis Sabar, but Alejandro Laforga quickly restored the Redz's lead.
After halftime, the Tigers took control, with Lucas Lacamp scoring and converting his try, followed by a five-point addition from Kyle Tremblay. Lacamp converted again, giving the Tigers a 9-point lead. Although Jordan Conroy scored for the Redz late in the game, it was not enough to change the outcome.
