Community Unites for Lung Cancer Awareness

In downtown Honolulu, over 100 business leaders, families, and pickleball enthusiasts gathered for the third Annual Lung Force Pickleball Tournament, successfully raising significant funds for lung cancer awareness and research. The event, hosted at Pickles at Focals, was promoted as the 'healthiest fundraiser on Oahu,' merging competitive sports with a vital public health initiative. The organizers set a fundraising target of $25,000 for the American Lung Association but exceeded expectations by collecting $30,350.

Pedro Haro, the executive director of the American Lung Association, emphasized the dual purpose of the event: 'We aim to raise funds while also increasing awareness about lung cancer. Many are unaware that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among both men and women in Hawaii. Our goal is for everyone to leave with some knowledge, and ultimately, we hope to save lives.'

The tournament's popularity continues to rise, garnering support from local businesses and recreational players, while shedding light on the serious impact of lung cancer in Hawaii.
