India Triumphs Over Japan in Pool B Match

Kakamigahara, Sep 25: The Indian women's hockey team achieved a significant victory against the host nation Japan, winning 3-1 in their fourth Pool B encounter, thereby securing a place in the semifinals of the ongoing Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Lalremsiami, Navneet Kaur, and Ishika were the goal scorers for India, while Shiho Kobayakawa netted one for Japan, as Salima Tete's squad maintained their unbeaten streak in the tournament.
From the outset, India displayed aggressive intent, applying pressure on Japan. Neha had an early chance, but her reverse hit went astray, and Navneet also missed an opportunity, sending her shot into the side netting.
India broke the deadlock in the fifth minute when Lalremsiami capitalized on a deflected ball from Navneet's initial attempt, slotting it past goalkeeper Yu Kudo to give India a 1-0 advantage.
Continuing their offensive, India earned a penalty corner, but Navneet's shot was blocked. Japan countered, but Bichu Devi made a crucial save to maintain India's lead.
As the first quarter concluded, India had another penalty corner, but a poor stop prevented them from testing the Japanese defense further, leaving the score at 1-0.
In the second quarter, India maintained control, with Japan seeking an equalizer. Just before halftime, Ishika extended India's lead to 2-0 after Navneet's penalty corner attempt was saved.
India continued to dominate in the third quarter, with Navneet scoring a stunning goal in the 36th minute, lifting the ball over the Japanese goalkeeper. Japan managed to reduce the deficit in the final quarter when Kobayakawa found the net with a tomahawk shot, making it 1-3.
Despite Japan's late goal, India remained composed and secured the victory, advancing to the semifinals. Their next challenge will be against Singapore in the final pool match on Sunday.
