The Indian men's hockey team showcased an impressive performance, defeating the reigning world champions Germany 3-1 during their second match in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2025-26 held in Rotterdam.

India's goals came from Mandeep Singh (7’), Shilanand Lakra (13’), and Nilakanta Sharma (35’), demonstrating not only their offensive prowess but also a robust defensive strategy.

Hardik Singh earned the title of 'Player of the Match' for his outstanding midfield control, while Manpreet Singh made history by surpassing Dilip Tirkey's record of 412 caps, becoming the most capped Indian player ever.

With 413 international appearances, Manpreet now ranks fifth on the all-time list for men's international caps, trailing behind notable players such as Belgium’s John-John Dohmen (481) and the Netherlands' Teun de Nooijer (453).

India began the match with strong possession, applying early pressure that resulted in Mandeep's goal in the 7th minute, followed by Lakra's strike just before the first quarter ended, putting India ahead 2-0.

In the second quarter, Germany attempted to intensify their attack, but India's defense held firm. They earned their first penalty corner in the 24th minute, which was effectively blocked by Amit Rohidas. Another penalty corner followed in the 27th minute, but goalkeeper Mohith made a crucial save, maintaining India's lead at halftime.

India continued their offensive in the second half, and in the 35th minute, Nilakanta Sharma executed a brilliant solo run, scoring to extend the lead to 3-0.

Germany managed to score with just 20 seconds left in the third quarter, thanks to Raphael Hartkopf, bringing the score to 3-1.

In the final quarter, Germany ramped up their efforts to close the gap, but the Indian team remained composed, utilizing counter-pressing tactics to thwart their advances. Despite a last-minute penalty corner awarded to Germany in the 59th minute, India's defense stood strong, securing a well-earned 3-1 victory.
