Eligible players from various leading hockey nations can register, with over 1,000 participants expected. New Delhi, May 15: Hockey India has announced the commencement of player registrations for the Hockey India League (HIL) 2027 Player Auction, which is set to take place in September, ahead of the tournament scheduled to kick off in January 2027.

Following the successful revival in the 2024–25 season and the positive momentum from the 2025–26 edition, the upcoming season of HIL is anticipated to elevate the competitive landscape, drawing elite talent from both India and around the world.

Eligible players from various prominent hockey nations can now register. For male participants, the eligible countries include India, the Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, England, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Ireland, France, New Zealand, South Africa, Malaysia, and Japan.

Female players from India, the Netherlands, Argentina, Belgium, China, Spain, England, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, the United States, Ireland, Scotland, and Japan are also invited to register.

Since its revival, the Hockey India League has seen impressive growth. The last season featured eight men's and four women's franchises, resulting in significant fan engagement. Over 1,000 players registered for the 2026 auction, which included more than 500 Indian men, 350 Indian women, and over 240 international players, showcasing the league's expanding global reach. On the field, SG Pipers secured the Women’s HIL 2026 title, while Kalinga Lancers triumphed in the men's category.

Commenting on the registration launch, Hockey India president and chairperson of the Hockey India League Governing Committee, Dilip Tirkey, stated, “The Hockey India League has firmly established itself as one of the most thrilling platforms in global hockey. The enthusiasm observed during the revival seasons has been incredibly encouraging, and the response from players worldwide reflects the league’s increasing prominence. We are thrilled to open player registrations for the 2027 edition and look forward to welcoming top talent from India and abroad. The HIL continues to play a vital role in providing players with exposure at the highest level while enhancing India’s hockey ecosystem.”

Hockey India Secretary General and HIL Governing Committee member Bhola Nath Singh remarked, “The success of previous editions has generated strong momentum for the Hockey India League, and we are eager to build on that in 2027. The participation numbers from last season underscored the trust and interest players have in the league. We encourage all eligible players to register and be part of a competition that not only showcases top-quality hockey but also significantly contributes to the development and growth of the sport.”
