Historic Victory for Indian Women's Cricket Team in England
Indian Women's Team Makes History in England
The Indian women's cricket team has achieved a remarkable milestone during their tour of England. They not only clinched the T20 series 3-2 but also triumphed in the three-match ODI series, winning it 2-1. The final ODI match took place on July 22 at Chester-le-Street, where India set a formidable target of 318 runs, thanks to a stellar century from captain Harmanpreet Kaur. England, in response, fell short, managing only 305 runs. This victory marks the first time India has defeated England in an ODI series on their home turf.
Outstanding Performances in the Final ODI
In the third ODI, Indian fast bowler Kranti Gaud emerged as a significant threat to the England women's team. She delivered an impressive performance, taking 6 wickets for just 52 runs in 9.5 overs, playing a crucial role in dismissing both of England's opening batswomen early. Kranti is now only the fourth Indian woman to take 6 wickets in a single ODI match. Alongside her, Shree Charani took 2 wickets, while Deepti Sharma contributed with 1 wicket. For England, captain Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 98 runs, and Emma Lamb added 68, but their efforts were not enough to secure a win.
Consistent Excellence on Foreign Tours
The Indian women's team has consistently showcased exceptional performances on foreign tours in recent years, with this England series being a notable addition. This marks the fifth occasion where they have won both T20 and ODI series on a foreign tour, achieving this feat for the first time in England. Throughout the ODI series, Kranti Gaud was the standout bowler with a total of 9 wickets, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 126 runs at an average of 42.
