Historic Unification of Pickleball Governing Bodies Marks New Era for the Sport

A New Chapter for Pickleball

In a groundbreaking decision for pickleball, member nations of the International Pickleball Federation (IPF) and the World Pickleball Federation (WPF) have unanimously agreed to merge into a single governing body during Special General Meetings (SGMs). This new organization will uphold the principle of 'One Country One Vote,' ensuring that every nation has a voice.

The newly formed entity will initially be known as the World Pickleball Federation (WPF) and will operate as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization registered in Illinois, USA. It aims to consolidate the resources and assets of both federations into a cohesive structure.

To align with global sports standards, the WPF will also register in Lausanne, Switzerland, the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The organization is dedicated to fulfilling all IOC recognition criteria, which include:

• Democratic governance with equal voting rights for all member nations

• Transparent operations and financial accountability

• Gender equity and representation of athletes

• Compliance with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations

• Frameworks for conflict resolution and disciplinary actions

• Adherence to the Olympic Charter

Having been established over six years ago, the WPF is well-equipped to initiate the IOC recognition process. Unlike other organizations claiming to represent pickleball internationally, the new WPF stands out due to its commitment to democracy, transparency, and global legitimacy.

Arvind Prabhoo, President of the IPF, remarked, 'This unification is a significant milestone for pickleball globally. By merging our strengths and adhering to the highest international standards, we are signaling that pickleball is poised to join the ranks of the world's most esteemed sports.'

Seymour Rifkind, President of the WPF, added, 'The pickleball community desires a singular International Governing Body for the sport. With 100 member countries and six years of experience, the new WPF has already met the initial requirements for IOC membership. We are excited to expand pickleball at the grassroots level while aspiring to be a fully recognized sport in future Olympic Games.'

As part of its establishment, the WPF is currently seeking nominations for Directors to create its first Board. These Directors will be elected by member nations during the inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for August 2025, ensuring that governance reflects the sport's diversity and global presence.

This unification represents a pivotal advancement in the global recognition and growth of pickleball, establishing a robust foundation for its future. With genuine democratic governance on the international stage, pickleball emerges victorious!
