Historic Renaming of India-England Test Series to Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy
A New Era in Test Cricket
In a groundbreaking decision, the prestigious Test series between India and England has been renamed the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. This change honors two of cricket's all-time greats, Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson, who have set remarkable standards in the longest format of the sport.
Transition from Previous Trophies
The Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy replaces the Pataudi Trophy, which was awarded during the series held in England from 2007 to 2022, as well as the Anthony de Mello Trophy, which had been used for home series in India since 1951.
Unveiling Ceremony at WTC Final
To commemorate this significant change, Tendulkar and Anderson will jointly unveil the new trophy at the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final at Lord’s, emphasizing the importance of this tribute and the legacy of these cricketing icons.
Why These Legends?
Sachin Tendulkar, renowned for his record of 200 Test matches and 15,921 runs, continues to inspire countless fans. Meanwhile, James Anderson, who recently retired, is celebrated as the second most-capped Test player with 188 matches and the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history with 704 wickets, marking him as the most successful fast bowler in the format.
India's Named Test Series Overview
With this announcement, India now boasts four officially named bilateral Test series, including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, the Freedom Trophy against South Africa, the Ganguly-Durjoy Trophy against Bangladesh, and now, the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy against England.
Looking Ahead
The inaugural Test under the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy will take place at Headingley, Leeds, starting June 20, 2025. Excitement is already mounting as fans eagerly await a match steeped in tradition and talent, now enhanced by a new legacy.
