Historic Debut for India's Mixed Disability Cricket Team at Lord's
A Milestone for Inclusive Sports
The Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI), in partnership with Svayam, hosted a heartfelt send-off ceremony for the Indian Men's Mixed Disability Cricket Team, which will compete from June 21 to July 3. The event featured former Indian cricketer Madan Lal, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad. This marks a significant moment in inclusive sports as the Indian Mixed Disability Cricket Team prepares for its inaugural international series at the prestigious Lord's Cricket Ground in England, often referred to as the 'Home of Cricket.'

Sminu Jindal, the Founder-Chairperson of Svayam, along with Madan Lal and other esteemed guests, attended the ceremony in New Delhi on Saturday. This event marks the first time a mixed disability team will compete at such a renowned venue, representing a significant achievement for disability cricket globally. The Indian team, consisting of 18 players with physical and intellectual challenges, is embarking on its first international tour, led by Captain Ravindra Gopinath Sante, to participate in a seven-match series.
Exciting Matches Ahead
The highlight of this tour includes a match at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground, a groundbreaking event for India's Men's Mixed Disability Cricket Team. Another match is scheduled for July 1 in Bristol, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, coinciding with the England Women vs India Women game. Sminu Jindal expressed her pride in the players, stating, 'As our disability cricket team embarks on this historic journey to England, they carry not only the Indian flag but also the aspirations for a more inclusive sporting future. Their participation will inspire many and demonstrate that with accessibility and determination, dreams can be achieved.'
Support and Recognition
India stands united with the team, filled with pride and inspiration. This initiative is a collaborative effort between DCCI and the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Prior to the tour, the team participated in a training camp in Jaipur to enhance team cohesion. DCCI General Secretary Ravikant Chauhan remarked, 'This is a proud moment for the players and for India. Competing at Lord's is a dream for every cricketer, and our Men's team has worked hard to reach this point. I wish them the best for the tournament and thank Svayam for their unwavering support.'
Ian Martin, Head of Disability Cricket at ECB, welcomed Svayam to Lord's for the Disability Cricket Day, expressing excitement about Sminu Jindal's participation. Madan Lal also acknowledged the importance of sponsorship in sports, emphasizing that true motivation comes from within. He wished the Indian team success in their matches and in winning hearts.
A Conference for Change
Sminu Jindal has been invited to speak at the upcoming ECB/MCC and Lord's Taverners Disability Cricket Conference at Lord's, which aims to unite international cricket boards, brands, and advocates for inclusion in sports. The conference will conclude with a live viewing of the third Vitality Mixed Disability IT20 match between India and England, showcasing the spirit of inclusive cricket at its finest. The team comprises players such as Ravindra Gopinath Sante (Captain), Vikrant Ravindra Keni, and others, along with four reserves.
