MANDI: Himachal Pradesh celebrates a significant achievement as two distinguished figures from its kabaddi scene have been appointed to key roles within the national and state kabaddi administration.
Former national player Prem Thakur has been named the selector for the state team by the Himachal Pradesh Kabaddi Association. In addition, Netar Singh Thakur has been appointed as a national kabaddi referee, a role that carries great honor and responsibility.
These appointments come at a pivotal time, coinciding with the inaugural Under-18 State-Level Kabaddi Championship for both boys and girls, taking place from June 20 to 22 at the Indoor Stadium, Chamba Ground, in Nahan, Sirmaur. This championship is crucial for selecting players for the national kabaddi team.
Tek Chand Sharma, president of the District Kabaddi Association Mandi, expressed his congratulations to both Thakur and Singh, emphasizing that this achievement is a source of pride for the entire district. He remarked, “These roles reflect their dedication, discipline, and long-standing contributions to the sport. It’s a proud moment and an inspiration for the kabaddi community.”
Sharma highlighted that such positions come with the important duty of maintaining the integrity of the game while nurturing the next generation of athletes. “We believe that both Prem Thakur and Netar Singh Thakur will excel in their responsibilities and elevate the kabaddi talent from our state,” he added.
He also expressed gratitude to the Himachal Pradesh Kabaddi Association president Rajkumar Nitu and Secretary Krishan Lal for recognizing and empowering local talent with these significant roles.
These appointments are viewed as a testament to the consistent performance and dedication of kabaddi professionals from Himachal Pradesh, and they are expected to inspire and uplift the morale of emerging players throughout the state.
