Highlights from the 8th Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships 2026

Men's Track Events

The inaugural day of the 8th Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships 2026 showcased outstanding performances from para athletes nationwide, featuring thrilling finishes and impressive displays in field events. In the Men's 100m T12 race, Chaitanya Pathak from Maharashtra clinched the gold medal with a time of 11.39 seconds. Vishu Vishu from Haryana closely followed to secure silver at 11.42 seconds, while Gowtham Karanam from Andhra Pradesh took home the bronze with a time of 11.75 seconds.

In the Men's 100m T47 category, Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath from Kerala sprinted to victory, finishing in 10.63 seconds. Dilip Gavit from Maharashtra earned the silver medal with a time of 10.64 seconds, and Babu Janu Pandaramise from Karnataka captured bronze at 11.19 seconds.

Vivek Sharma from Punjab won gold in the Men's 100m T63 event, clocking in at 12.92 seconds. Arpit from Haryana secured silver with a time of 13.00 seconds, while Sandeep Kumar from Uttar Pradesh took bronze with a time of 13.40 seconds.

Men's Field Events

In the Men's Long Jump T47 event, Nishad Kumar from Himachal Pradesh achieved an impressive jump of 7.34m to win gold. Arjun Singh from Rajasthan earned silver with a jump of 6.81m, while Sri Lanka's Safran Mohammadu secured bronze with a distance of 6.72m.

The Men's Discus Throw F64 competition was fiercely contested, with Pardeep Kumar from S.S.C.B. winning gold with a throw of 50.47m. Devender Kumar from Haryana took silver with a throw of 50.44m, and Rakesh from S.S.C.B. claimed bronze with a distance of 49.67m.

Women's Events

In the Women's Shot Put F57 event, Sharmila from Haryana emerged victorious with a throw of 9.86m. Kanchugarakoppa Shyla Shilpa from Karnataka won silver with a throw of 6.67m, while Poonam Sharma from Haryana secured bronze with a distance of 6.46m.

Karnataka's Rakshitha Raju excelled in the Women's 1500m T11 event, winning gold with a time of 5:17.54. Shalini Chaudhary from Rajasthan claimed silver in 6:07.55, and Kyrgyzstan's Gulnaz Zhuzbaeva earned bronze with a time of 6:19.58.

The championship is set to continue until May 28 in Bengaluru, featuring elite para athletes from India and abroad competing in various track and field events.
