Harmanpreet Kaur Shines with a Century as India Dominates Zimbabwe in Women's ODI
India's Stellar Performance in Women's ODI Against Zimbabwe
Vadodara: In a remarkable display of batting, Harmanpreet Kaur scored an impressive 126 runs off 121 balls, while Deepti Sharma contributed a swift 106 not out, leading India to a formidable total of 328 for six in the second Women's ODI against Zimbabwe on Sunday.
Harmanpreet captivated the audience with her exquisite off-side play, showcasing elegant cover drives and cut shots that thrilled the crowd.
The former captain formed a significant partnership of 153 runs with all-rounder Deepti, who reached her century off just 86 deliveries, propelling India to a strong position.
This series marks the first bilateral encounter between India and Zimbabwe, offering the visitors a valuable chance to gain experience against a top-tier team.
India's innings began on a shaky note as Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma were dismissed early. Mandhana, the newly appointed captain, mistimed a pull shot in the opening over, while Shafali was caught at mid-wicket, handing Nomvelo Sibanda her second wicket.
Pratika Rawal (61 off 67) and Harmanpreet then combined for a 124-run partnership, advancing the innings. Rawal was caught at deep mid-wicket in the 23rd over, and Tejal Hasanbis also struggled to find her rhythm.
Harmanpreet took charge with her well-paced innings, benefiting from a bit of luck as she was dropped three times. This marked her eighth ODI century, and she appears to be thriving without the pressures of captaincy.
However, India couldn't finish their innings as strongly as desired, with designated finisher Richa Ghosh falling quickly, which slowed the scoring rate.
Deepti celebrated her second ODI century with a boundary towards square leg in the final over, finishing with a total of 15 fours.
Given their batting challenges during the tour, Zimbabwe will need significant improvement to match India's score.
