Harjit Singh Shines at Punjab State Athletics Meet with 10.21 Seconds in 100m
Harjit Singh's Stellar Performance
Harjit Singh, a 28-year-old sprinter hailing from Majri village in Fatehgarh Sahib, has made headlines in Indian athletics by achieving a remarkable time of 10.21 seconds in the men's 100-meter race at the Punjab State Senior Athletics Meet in Ludhiana.
This impressive feat follows his standout performance at the National Athletics Series-5 in Sangrur on May 9, where he solidified his status as one of Punjab's fastest rising sprinters.
Expressing his joy, Harjit shared that he had been rigorously preparing for this event and was ecstatic with the results. "I am on cloud nine. The hard work has paid off," he exclaimed after the race.
Harjit has a close friendship with fellow sprinter Gurindervir Singh, who recently earned the title of the nation's fastest man by clocking 10.09 seconds in the same event. The duo has participated in numerous competitions together over the years.
"We have competed in various tournaments together. His achievements inspire all of us to strive for excellence," Harjit remarked.
Interestingly, Harjit’s path to sprinting was not straightforward; he initially played kabaddi before transitioning to athletics during his school years, a choice that has significantly shaped his athletic career.
Currently training at the Sports College in Jalandhar under the guidance of esteemed coach Sarabjit Singh Happy, Harjit’s recent success further emphasizes Jalandhar's reputation as a hub for sprinting talent in Punjab.
Coach Sarabjit Singh Happy praised Harjit’s performance, noting that the timing is a remarkable accomplishment. "This is an excellent time in the 100 meters. Gurindervir has always encouraged more athletes to excel in sprinting, and we are witnessing that now," he stated.
In addition to his dedication to athletics, Harjit also serves in the Indian Air Force, skillfully balancing his military responsibilities with a rigorous training regimen.
