Harjinder Kaur's Remarkable Performance in Glasgow

Glasgow [Scotland], July 29: Indian weightlifter Harjinder Kaur showcased her exceptional talent at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, securing a silver medal in the women's 69kg division with a personal best total of 227kg on Tuesday night.

The athlete from Punjab demonstrated remarkable skill and consistency, lifting 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk, finishing just behind Canada's Charlotte Simoneau, who took home the gold with a total of 235kg (108kg in snatch and 127kg in clean and jerk), as reported by ESPN.

Harjinder was a highlight of the event, breaking the Commonwealth Games record twice during the snatch phase. She began with a successful lift of 96kg, followed by 99kg, setting a new Games record, which she then improved with a lift of 101kg on her final attempt.

This impressive performance kept her in the running for gold as she entered the clean and jerk phase.

Starting strong, she lifted 120kg, briefly taking the lead and applying pressure on her Canadian competitor. She later achieved a lift of 126kg, culminating in her personal best total of 227kg, which secured her the silver medal.

Despite Simoneau reclaiming the lead with a final lift to clinch gold, Harjinder's performance was one of the highlights of her career, emphasizing India's rising prowess in weightlifting at the Glasgow Games.

This silver medal marks an improvement from her bronze finish at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, making it her second consecutive podium appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

Born on October 14, 1996, in Nabha, Punjab, Harjinder has consistently positioned herself among India's top weightlifters. Her latest achievement adds to India's medal tally in weightlifting, a sport that has become one of the nation's most successful at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

India's campaign in Glasgow has been impressive, with a total of 11 medals won so far, including two gold, six silver, and three bronze.
