Harbhajan Singh Celebrates India's Win

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh expressed his admiration for Team India's performance in the T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal against England, which took place on Thursday. He highlighted the exceptional bowling by Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, while also suggesting that the overall bowling strategy could have been executed more effectively.

India triumphed in a nail-biting match at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, clinching a seven-run victory over England. The Indian team posted an impressive score of 253/7 in their innings, but England fell just short, finishing at 246/7, thanks to a remarkable century from Jacob Bethell. The match shifted dramatically when Bumrah delivered a stellar 18th over, allowing only six runs while England required 45 runs from the last three overs. Following this, Pandya maintained the pressure with a superb final over, conceding just nine runs and taking the wicket of Sam Curran.

Insights from Harbhajan Singh

In an interview, Harbhajan Singh praised the team's performance at Wankhede Stadium, commending Bumrah and Pandya for their skillful bowling in a tense match. He acknowledged that while the victory was commendable, there was room for improvement in the bowling department. He expressed satisfaction with the win and encouraged the team to maintain their current style of play in the final to bring pride to the nation.

"India showcased remarkable cricket at Wankhede. The match was incredibly close, even after scoring over 250 runs. The maturity displayed by Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya was crucial in securing the win. A single big hit could have changed the outcome, but I believe we can enhance our bowling performance. Ultimately, the positive takeaway is that India emerged victorious," Harbhajan remarked.

"As we approach the final, I urge the team to continue playing the brand of cricket that has brought them this far. I am confident that you will make India proud," he added.

Semifinal Highlights

India batted first, with a stellar performance from Sanju Samson, who scored 89 runs off 42 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes. Contributions from Shivam Dube (43 runs in 25 balls), Ishan Kishan (39 runs in 18 balls), Hardik Pandya (27 runs in 12 balls), and Tilak Varma (21 runs in seven balls) propelled India to a total of 253/7 in their 20 overs.

Despite having England in a precarious position at 95/4, India could not maintain control as Jacob Bethell (105 runs in 48 balls) and Will Jacks (35 runs in 20 balls) formed a counter-attacking partnership worth 77 runs for the fifth wicket. Bethell continued to push forward even after Jacks' dismissal, and a quick 19 runs from Jofra Archer brought England close, but they ultimately finished at 246/7.

Looking Ahead: The Final

The final match is scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad, where India aims to extend their successful run and secure another major ICC title by facing New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 8.
