Gurnoor Brar Shares Bowling Tactics After ODI Victory Against New Zealand
Gurnoor Brar Discusses Bowling Strategy in ODI Triumph
After India's victory over New Zealand in the opening ODI, Indian fast bowler Gurnoor Brar opened up about his strategy during the match, which led to him claiming three wickets. He emphasized that he focused on hitting a hard length to exploit the advantageous bounce due to his height. Following a series of inconsistent performances in ODIs both at home and in England, Brar excelled with figures of 3/44 in 9.2 overs against New Zealand, dismissing Tim Seifert and Tom Latham during his spell. His ability to generate impressive pace and bounce was evident on the fast-friendly pitch in Auckland.
Details of the Bowling Strategy
In a video shared by the BCCI, Gurnoor explained, "The conditions here are excellent for bowlers. The pitches are quite favorable. We practiced here for about four or five days prior, so the pitch conditions were familiar. I relied on my length and bowling technique, and the results followed." He further elaborated, "The straight boundary is relatively short here. The six I conceded in my first over was due to a slightly fuller delivery. Therefore, I aimed to adjust my length to make it challenging for batsmen to hit over square leg or fine leg. I consulted with Arshdeep and Anshul, who had bowled on this pitch, and they advised that hitting a hard length would yield better bounce because of my height."
Match Performance and Series Overview
Brar has now taken 17 wickets in 10 matches, averaging 36.76, with his best performance being 3/27. The match was highlighted by Virat Kohli's commanding 74 runs and stellar bowling performances from Arshdeep Singh and Anshul Kamboj, leading India to victory in the rain-affected first ODI of the five-match series in Auckland on Wednesday. Arshdeep led the bowling attack with an impressive four wickets, while Gurnoor Brar contributed with 3/44 in 9.2 overs, and Anshul Kamboj added 2/22 in 10 overs, effectively dismantling New Zealand's batting lineup for 185 runs. India successfully chased down a revised target of 143 runs in 32 overs, despite interruptions due to rain.
